At A & S Fabricating, we provide comprehensive metal fabrication services based on extensive industry experience and a dedication to customer service. The assembly shown here is a dredging auger component that was fabricated for a customer located in the Northern Central US. We were awarded this project as a result of our past experience with dredging auger components and reputation for quality.
Not only did the sheer size of the project present a fabrication and machining challenge, but many components of the assembly are quite complex. The assembly consists of A36 steel plate in 0.25” to 4.5” thicknesses as well as multiple structural steel shapes such as angle, pipe, tubing, and round bar. The cylindrical structure seen in the photo was rolled from 0.75” plate to an outer diameter of 28”. The hexagonal section was produced by bending and forming the raw material to create multiple matched sets. Once the section was fit and welded, it was placed on a horizontal boring mill to refine the surface finish to 32 RMS in specific areas.
Smaller components were cut using saws, plasma cutters, and flame cutting equipment, then milled or turned to create the desired part features. All welding and machining were performed by certified personnel. Visual and dimensional inspections were performed to verify parts met dimensional tolerances, which were specified as tight as + 0.001 / – 0.000″. The entire assembly measures 19’ in length and was painted according to customer specifications.
Upon delivery, the customer expressed their appreciation for the high level of quality and detail that was put into this complex project. We continue to produce approximately 5 to 8 of these assemblies per year on an as needed basis, according to the customer’s schedule.
